Record rain
After all that has been said on this website the extreme weather in the UK in November 2009 should be noted.
Hundreds of people were rescued in Cumbria after the area was swamped by the highest level of rainfall measured in England since records began. The rain - reaching 314mm (12.4 inches) in 24 hours - tops the 279.4mm (11in) recorded in Martinstown, Dorset, in July 1955.
Sky News weather presenter Francis Wilson said it was the greatest seen since meteorologists started using instruments to record rainfall - back in 1727.
