Again snow in the Middle East – ‘even at the doors’?
The Middle East does not normally see snow in the winter. It was therefore an unusual sight on Tuesday 6 January 2015 when snow blanketed the areas from Turkey to Israel.
But for residents in the affected areas, the past few winters 2012-2014 have brought snow, despite previously going decades without seeing it at all.
The Middle East suffered its worst snowstorm since 1953 in the time 11-13 December 2013
The jet stream
Much colder-than-average air pushed into the region associated with an unusually sharp dip in the jet stream last week, bringing a storm with strong winds and in some locations, snowfall.
Jets streams play a key role in determining the weather because they usually separate colder air and warmer air. Jet streams generally push air masses around, moving weather systems to new areas and even causing them to stall if they have moved too far away.
While they are typically used as one of the factors in predicting weather, jet streams don’t generally follow a straight path — the patterns are called peaks and troughs — making weather forecasting difficult.
Climatologists say that changes in the jet streams are closely tied to global warming, especially the polar jet streams, because there is a great deal of evidence that the North and South poles are warming faster than the remainder of the planet. When the jets streams are warmer, their ups and downs become more extreme, bringing different types of weather to areas that are not accustomed to climate variations. If the jet stream dips south, for example, it takes the colder air masses with it.
As mentioned, the area typically does not see snowfall, but the past two winters have delivered significant storms and snowfalls to the Middle East. In December 2013, storms descended on parts of Syria, Jordan and Israel, dumping record snowfall to areas that had not witnessed snow in 50 years. That storm also brought snow to Egypt, giving it snow for the first time in over 100 years.
Can the words of Matthew 24:32-33 concerning the signs of the end time refer to the unusual snow at the doors of the dwellings and buildings in the Middle East at the present time?
“Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when its branch is yet tender, an d putteth forth leaves, yeah know that summer is nigh; So likewise, when ye shall see all these things, knoweth that it is near, even at the doors.”
After all that has been said on this website in the past 15 years – I believe so.
