Torrential rains in Louisiana and southern Mississippi have caused area rivers to rise toward historic highs.
The 17.09 inches of rain in Livingston, Louisiana measured after midnight -- made the deluge a 1-in-1000-year rainfall for that location. Further measures of 12 inches overnight, indicate somewhere between a 1-in-100-year to 1-in-500-year rainfall event near Zachary and Greensburg.

Baton Rouge Airport recorded 8.18 inches of rain Friday, the wettest August day on record since weather records began over 100 years ago.

Numerous happenings in the final season

These occurrences may not seem so apocalyptic, but considering that Revelation focuses on numerous events coming together in the final short season (mankind following and worshipping the image of the beast (Rev 19:20); sinners bearing the mark of the beast (Rev 14:9-10); nations gathering to Armageddon (Rev 16:16 and 19:19; Christians dying for their faith as in history (Rev 6:9-11) and not least the forceful winds that are blowing and hurting the earth (Rev 7:1-3) and the plague of hail that is one of the last signs (Rev 16:21))we should therefore consider the present extreme “rain” within this context.

The word “rain” in Revelation

The word “rain” only appears once in the book Revelation and then to inform us concerning the “power” of the “two witnesses” (Rev 11:3)

Revelation 11:3-7 New International Version (NIV)

“3 And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” 4 They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”

5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. 6 They have power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.

7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.”

Rain a gift from God

Rain is a life-giving blessing to mankind. It is a gift from God. But in Revelation God brings ‘rain’ into relation with the “two witnesses”. The words “two witnesses” are inclusive to all those preachers and missionaries that carried out the testimony of God and Jesus Christ to the world.

God wishes to let mankind know how precious these witnesses are to him. God will not let it rain in the time that they are prophesying: “They have power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying;

A God of wrath

Revelation reveals a God of wrath who will harm those that kill the “two witnesses”: “If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die”.

Revelation reveals in history and till the Return God is going to revenge the killing of the “two witnesses”. The words “two witnesses” are inclusive to all those preachers, missionaries and Christians that carried out the testimony of God and Jesus Christ to the world.

God will turn water to blood and bring about plague on their behalf: “and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.”

In the final short season

Rev 11:7 “Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.”
I believe that these words indicate the power of the beast in the end time that has subtly moved the attention of citizens of the nations away from the Word of God so that the nations no longer regard the words of Scripture as vitally relevant to their existence and life after death. The words of the preachers and missionaries cannot convince the masses. In the end time they are not educated or taught or see the necessity to adhere to the basics of the Christian faith.

It seems Revelation reveals that with extreme rain that brings death and plague (in stagnant waters?) (“turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague”) at the present time and in the time to come - God is avenging the death of the martyrs through the ages.
