Now the Lord had prepared a great fish

Jonah 1:17 “Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”

Jonah 2:10 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon dry land.

Signs of the end time and Judgement

As my previous post shows, at the present time I am contemplating, as a result of a Divine Intercession and insight into the book Revelation, as well as signs in the sun, moon and stars that we are seeing signs of the end time. Windstorms at the present time, like tropical cyclone Ida, have apocalyptic proportions.

As all Bible scholars know, Jesus Christ brought Jonah’s plight of three days and three nights in the belly of the fish into relation with his Death and Resurrection, but also into relation with the end time and time of Judgement.

Matthew 12:38-42
Matthew 12:38-42 King James Version (KJV)
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

Jonah of the Bible brought into
remembrance in 2019

Somewhat like the Bible’s Jonah, last month, February 2019, a South African marine conservationist narrowly survived after being caught in the jaws of a Bryde whale off the coast of the South African town of Port Elizabeth while snorkelling and filming a sardine run.
The conservationist was gulped by the whale together with a mass of sardines in the whale’s path. The whale held the man in his jaws for a short time – a couple of seconds. The whale realising its mistake opened its mouth and released the man from his mouth with what felt to the man like tonnes of water.

World wide

This incident was reported world wide on the internet and at this point in time has brought into remembrance the Jonah story in the Bible.

Matthew 12:38-40

Matthew 12:38-40 of the “sign of Jonah” in Matthew relates to the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The generation of Jesus Christ
Matthew 12:38-40 King James Version (KJV)

38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The “evil and adulterous” generation in verse 39 refers to the generation of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 12:41-42

This section, Matthew 12:41-42 relates the last generation living before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Why?

Why does Jesus Christ use the words “this generation” for both His generation and the final generation? Why does He refer to the “men of Nineveh” and the “queen of the South”? It is only with the understanding of Revelation in 2019 that we can, I believe, understand these words.

With this generation

Jesus Christ reveals that the last generation will like His generation be sinful. Another reason, I believe, is found in the understanding of Revelation 21:16.

Revelation 21:16 King James Version (KJV)

16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.”
Note the word “lieth” or “laid out like a square” (New International Version)

Revelation gives the length and the breadth. If the measurements are “laid out square” and twelve generations since the time of Christ are ‘laid out’ the last generation links to the first generation in the square. Therefore, I believe, the words “with this generation”, are used in Matthew 12:41 and 42.

When Matthew 12:41-42 occur the Second Coming is about to happen.

“A greater than Jonas is here”; “A greater than Solomon is here”.
