The Woman and the Dragon

Revelation 12 King James Version (KJV)

For centuries this chapter has been confusing. The only way one can understand its construction is by being absolutely sure to which times in history and the days to come Revelation links certain words. The understanding of the words reveals that the chapter is divided into four sections. Each of the sections has to do with the measure of a ‘thousand’ years.

(First section Rev 12:1-4)

Rev 12:1 “And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:”

Time has brought greater insight. At this point in time, and with the insight given through the establishment of the “one hour” in Revelation, this verse relates to both the time of the birth of Jesus Christ as well as the star formation that appeared in the sky on 23 September 2017.

A woman clothed with the sun

The words, “A woman clothed with the sun” reveal the time of the birth of Jesus Christ. The symbol of the “sun” comes from Malachi 4:2 “Unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings”, which is a prediction of the coming of the Christ. Therefore “clothed with the sun” means bearing the fulfillment of the prophecy of the coming of the Messiah.

The sign in the time of the “forty and two months”

Because the sign of 23 September 2017 appeared in the time of the “forty and two months”, it seems to be a preparation for the fulfilment of the prophecy of Revelation. It seems that it is predicted that a woman in the end time would bear the testimony of Jesus Christ and the understanding of the book Revelation.

And upon her head a crown of twelve stars.

Job 9:7 “Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.”

Through this reference in Job, I believe Revelation reveals that the symbolism of “twelve stars” has to do with something that is sealed up. I therefore believe the “crown of twelve stars” has to do with the loosening of the seals of the scroll and the time measures of the book Revelation.

Rev 12:2 “And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.’’

The red dragon

Rev 12:3 “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.”

Third part

This is a very important verse in the understanding of Revelation. Through the words “third part”, Revelation is covering the entire period of two thousand years up to the time 2020. You will recall that in the sounding of the trumpets Revelation repeats the words “third part” a number of times relating to a time before 2020, and also to the very last measure of “one thousand two hundred and threescore days” (Rev 11:3).

In 4BC and 2020

It means that in 4BC (the time of the birth of Christ) and in 2020 (“third part”) the forces that wish to drive believers against each other, and crush the Faith will be out in full force (Later in this chapter Revelation reveals the evil of the dragon as the “accuser of our brethren” (Rev 12:10)).

Note: Revelation has covered the whole period of two thousand years in the first four verses.

(Second section Rev 12:5 and 6)

Back to the time of the birth of Jesus Christ

Rev 12:5 “And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.”

This verse covers the entire time from Ascension of the Christ, and the entire time that he would rule the nations with an iron rod, as the Trinity.

The history of the spread of the faith

Rev 12:6 “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.”

In these two verses Revelation covers two millennia of history again. The Church is personified as a woman and the faith would spread Westward in Europe (in the first millennium AD) and then across the seas to the ends of the earth (“wilderness”) in the second millennium, right up to the time of the “a thousand, two hundred and threescore days”, the last time measure.

(The only way one can know this is by being sure that the “one thousand, two hundred and threescore days” relates to the time beyond 2020.)

(Third section Rev 12:7 to12)

Insight into what was happening in heaven during this time. The dragon cast out.

Rev 12:7 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Those that choose Christ and those that choose Anti-Christ

It is important to remember in the understanding of Revelation that the verses now distinguish between those that were misled by Satan and those that clung to their faith.

Rev 12:8 “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

The dragon is that evil that sets up Christian brothers against each other “the accuser of the brethren”

Day and night

The words, “day and night” cover the entire two millennia that is measured in “days”. You will recall that I measured “three days and a half” (Rev 11:9 and 11) in each millennium. Revelation reveals that the time of the spread of the faith must be divided into ‘days’ (day and night).

Those that overcame the dragon by adhering to their faith

Rev 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Revelation again indicates the end of the second millennium

Rev 12:12 “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

Short time

Note: Through our knowledge that “a short time” relates to the time 2008 to 2020 we can know that Revelation once again covers the entire time that the dragon was active on earth. Right up to the time of the “short season”.
Revelation has again covered two thousand years up to the “short season”

(fourth section Rev 12:13 to 17)

Revelation now again goes back to the time of the birth of Christ

Rev 12:13 “And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.””

“A time, times and a half time”

The time of the spread of the faith must be divided into “a time, times and half a time” Revelation confirms that the time of the spread of the faith has to be divided into a second “three days and a half”.

Rev 12:14 “And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”

In the second millennia the Christian faith would spread from conflict in Europe to the countries in the ends of the earth.

Secular rule world-wide

Rev12:15 “And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.”

Persecution on hold

Rev 12:16 “And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.”

The world that followed the beast (Rev 13:3) and secular rule brought a pause to religious conflict and persecution.”

The dragon active till the final war

Rev 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Why the time periods of two thousand years?

Revelation wishes to confirm that time measures of Revelation are correct. Revelation also wishes to reveal the time of the spread in terms of two thousand years, divided into two periods of ‘’three days and a half”. The understanding of this chapter is essential in the understanding of Chapter 20.
