The time measure of Revelation
This is a detailed synopsis taken from the “Introduction” of “11 September 2001, the Great Earthquake and Revelation”
“Time” in Revelation is expressed in words that mean time but are not only the time that we know them to mean. The reason for this being that it would have to be through a Divine intervention that time measure is revealed. Particularly in the understanding of time measure it should be remembered that a word that is repeated in Revelation is enhanced and augmented in meaning by the repetition.
Because “time” in Revelation is expressed in ‘hours’, ‘days’, ‘months’ and ‘years’ it is confusing to say, for example, in explanation ‘a day of 24 hours’. I therefore use the words: ‘an hour as we know it to be’; ‘a day as we know it to be”; ‘a month as we know it to be’ etc.
Day
The word “day” appears in the following ways: Rev 1:10 “In the Spirit on the Lord’s Day”. These words mean that God determines the time of a “day” in Revelation. The word “day” can mean the time of a day, as we know it or it can be a length of time determined by insight derived from the Divine intervention. It also refers to the time of the “seventh day” that is Sunday, but also reveals that the meaning of Revelation will be understood in the time of the end of the ‘seventh day’. The two measures of “three days and a half” (Rev 11:9 and 11), which are each about one thousand and four years ultimately bring the nations to the time of the end seventh day, which is the end time.
Rev 21:25 “And the gates of it shall not shut at all by day, and there shall be no night.” These words relate to the twelve gates of the New Jerusalem. As mentioned above, in 2005, with the understanding of time measure of Revelation and the total construction of Revelation the word ”day” refers here not only to any day in the time from the Revelation to John on Patmos, but to the time of ‘three days’ in the second millennium, when the nations were deceived by the beast out of the sea and the beast out of the earth. Revelation says, “there shall be no night” for the time of the ‘three days’ of the second millennium when the nations were misled, the “days” were also “night”. In the New Jerusalem there will not be those who were deceived by the beast. There will also be no more deception.
Days
1260 days: The number “one thousand, two hundred and threescore days” appears in Rev 11:3 and 12:6. This number refers to one thousand, two hundred and threescore days in the time of the ‘short season’, which is the time that we can measure through indications of time in Revelation. I believe that the “one thousand and two hundred days” of this period of time to be the time from 11 September 2001 to the time of the ‘great earthquake’ in the seabed near Sumatra on 26 December 2005. The “threescore days” relates to the time from 26 December 2004 to 22 February 2005, which is also the time of the “four winds” or four major hurricanes that blew in the area of the Pacific Ocean in that time. It was also the time that the night was lit up by the lava from Mount Kilauea that at that time once again flowed to the sea. These happenings may not seem so unusual but in the time measures of Revelation there happenings correlate with the words of Revelation and also reveal the words of Jesus Christ in Mat 24: 27 “For as the lightning cometh out of the east and shineth even unto the west; so shall the coming of the son of man be”. The correlation with the words of Jesus Christ is of the greatest significance for the words of Jesus open the ‘book’, which is the book Revelation (Rev 5:5).
In the days
These words appear in Rev 10:7 and 11:6 mean in the time of the “1260 days”, that is 11 September 2001 to 22 February 2005.
“In those days” (Rev 2:13): ”In those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr “ refers to the time of martyrdom in the early years, that is the first century, of the Christian Church. Through these words Revelation reveals that the time of “day” relates to time in history. In Rev 9:6 ”And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it and desire to die, and death shall flee from them.” These words relate to suffering in the time of the ‘short season’ and the last days. The words “flee” and “fled” are used to indicate time of persecution and suffering in the Christian Church.
10 days
The words Rev 2:10 “and ye shall have tribulation 10 days”, appears in the letter to the congregation Smyrna in the time of the first century. These words can only be understood through the history of the city Smyrna and the understanding of the way numbers are used in Revelation. The number “10” refers to one section of the earth. This is revealed through the “0” or ‘tens’. In the letter to Smyrna it indicates the third of the earth in which the city of Smyrna was situated, that is the Middle East section of the earth, which stretches from Eastern Europe to India with the midpoint the Euphrates River.
It also relates to the time of a “day” in history. The words “and ye shall have tribulation 10 days” relates to the time that persecution would come to an end in the area of Smyrna. This happened in AD 313 with the Edict of Milan. The year 313 falls in the first or ‘one day’ (c AD70 –358) of the “three days” of the first millennium.
Three days and a half
The time of “three days and a half” is about one thousand and four years. Because this time measure appears twice (Rev 11:9 and 11:11) in Revelation, this period of time is measured twice from the time of the birth of Jesus Christ, placed in the year 4BC. The time that Mars appeared as the morning star on 28 August 2003, I believe, was the end of the two periods of “three days and a half” in Revelation. The reasons for this are revealed in the chapters of this book.
Rev 11:9 “And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and a half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.” These words mean that when the Christian faith has spread to all the nations in 2005 (“people and kindreds and tongues and nations”) those of the twenty-first century will not understand that the commitment to faith of those who were prepared to die for their faith in the time of second millennium. Not to bury someone is to treat that person with contempt. It is a sign of disrespect or lack of feeling for that person’s convictions. In other words Revelation reveals that ultimately at the end of the second millennium Christian martyrdom would not be understood by those who were misled and ‘worship’ the ideologies (these are revealed through the analysis of the beast out of the sea and the beast out of the earth) that have undermined the Christian faith in the nations.
Rev 11:11 “And after three days and a half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.” These words also indicate the time 28 August 2003. After that time the signs of the end will gradually make the inhabitants of the earth realize that the “two witnesses”, that is those who proclaimed the testimony Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit through the two millennia will ultimately rise from the dead. The signs of the end will reveal that there is going to be a Return and a Resurrection.
Month
The time measures “month” or “ five months” and “42 months” appear in Revelation.
“Five months” pertains to history and the end time. In history “five months” is a period of thirty years (a month being 6 years). In the end time “42 months” is 42 months, as we know it to be. 42 months seems to relate to the time September 2001 to February 2005. This will be explained in the book.
Year
A year in Revelation is as long as we know a year to be. It is also the measure of “man” Rev 21:17.
Hour
The word “hour” appears in a number of verses. The time of “hour” has a measure in history and it has a measure in the end time. In history it is about the time of 24 years, and in the end time it is the time, as we know it. Rev 3:3 “If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I shall come upon thee.” This verse that comes from the letter to the congregation of Sardis warns that that church had not kept their works “perfect before God” (Rev 3:3). In the total understanding of Revelation that deals with the Revelation of the hand of the Trinity in the ruling of the nations, this verse has a ‘new’ meaning that those who ‘watch’ at the end time will not be unaware of the end time and the Return. In Rev 3:3 the word ‘hour’ relates to the ‘time’ of the Return. It is a time that will be revealed by the last signs and not by time that we can measure through time measure in Revelation. At this point it seems to be in the ‘short time’ after February 2005.
Rev 3:10 “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I will also keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.” This verse reveals that the letters to the seven churches of Asia Minor were not only for them but also for all the churches that would develop in the last two millennia, and particularly for those churches in the end time. Therefore it is in the end time that the “hour” of temptation comes upon the “world”.
Rev 8:1 “And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.” The opening of the seventh seal is the time of the sounding of the seven trumpets. At this point in time it seems that this time ends in the time of the “1260 days”. The length of “half an hour” is twelve years. The time of “half an hour” in this verse is about the time 1992 to February 2005.
Rev 9:15: In this verse “hour” relates to the hour in history (24 years) and an hour, as we know it to be.
Rev 11:13: In this verse “same hour” relates to the last time measure after the “three days and a half” that we cannot measure.
Rev 14: 7: The “hour” of judgment is the time of judgment. It is not a time that can be measured.
Rev 17:12 “Receive power as kings one hour.” In this verse “hour” is about 24 years. This is explained in the book.
Rev 18:10 “In one hour is thy judgement come”. In Revelation, chapter 18, “hour” can mean an “hour” in history that is a period of about 24 years; an ‘hour’ as we know it to be, or the final ‘hour’, meaning time only known to God
Rev 18:17 “In one hour so great riches come to naught”. These words relate to the time, 1908 to 1932 and the time of the Great Depression and may relate to a final time of financial loss.
Rev 18:19 “That great city, in one hour she is made desolate.” Through the words: “naught” and “desolate”, it is revealed that the fall of Babylon is not necessarily only about financial loss, but vacancy and purposelessness in the ruling of the nations with regard to the message of Jesus Christ. This time of ‘hour’ relates to all three measures of ‘hour’ related above.
