News of the latest chapter in the saga broke just before Christmas. Bernard Madoff, a leading member of the New York financial world, a man with a fine financial brain, has just perpetrated the greatest fraud in history using a crude confidence trick as old as the hills. Fifty billion US dollars of international investor's money has gone down the drain. One investor has already committed suicide.
How is it possible that a man in his position could end up doing a thing like this?
