(Readers should look up the references in Scripture in this post in order to see how they relate to the total book of Revelation.)
It seems that with the earthquake in the seabed near Sumatra on 26 December 2004 and the earthquake in Zarand, Iran on 22 February 2005 Revelation brings its time measures together. This is revealed through the time measures of “forty and two months” and “one thousand, two hundred and threescore days”.
Temple and altar
It was shown on this Forum (Measure the temple) how the “temple” was measured to the time 28 August 2003 and also in the “altar” (Measure the altar) to the time 2002. It appears that we can establish to the ‘day’, the time that we have reached the “outer court” (Rev 11:2).
42 months and 1260 days
The last two time measures of Revelation are given in the verses Rev 11:2 and 3. “And the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophecy a thousand, two hundred and threescore days”. These words mean that after a period of forty –two months the dishonouring of Jerusalem will come to an end. In the period of time of 1260 days the Holy Spirit will reveal the mystery of the prophecy of the end time. (We shall start with the period of 1260 days)
1260 days
[Remember that the word “days” in Revelation refers to two time measures: “three days and a half” (Rev 11:9 and 11) which is a bit more than a millennium (a ‘day’ being 287 years); and “1260 days” (Rev 11:3 and 12:6) which is a time measure in the end time and where the length of the “day “ is as we know it.]
Threescore (60) days
The earthquake in Zarand, Iran on 22 February 2005 that measured 6.4 on the Richter scale happened 60 (threescore) days after the “great earthquake” in the seabed near Sumatra causing the giant tsunami.
Threescore (20 20 20) days
On 15 January 2005 twenty days (one score) after the tsunami an earthquake registering 6:1 on the Richter scale shook the New Britain region close to Raboul volcano in Papua New Guinea.
On 4 February 2005 (about 20 days after 15 January 2005 ) lava from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, increased and had found a new outlet to the sea. The lava flow continued throughout February.
(Also in the Pacific region from the beginning of February 2005, four devastating cyclones [Meena (category 4); Olaf (category 4); Nancy and Percy] hit the islands of the Pacific Ocean: Samoa, Cook Islands and Tokelau islands.) These are the “four winds” in the Pacific ocean region that Revelation says are no longer being held back. Rev 7:1 and Rev 9:14 (See also the earlier post “Four winds” on this Forum.)
Note that all these happenings took place in the Pacific Ocean region. Revelation is indicating the ends of the earth, the islands of the Pacific Ocean, to which the Christian religion spread. It is “a third part” of the earth. Rev 16:19 “and the great city was divided into three parts.” In 2005 “the great city“ is the entire earth.
200 days
The earthquake near Sumatra on 26 December 2004 happened about 200 days after the time of significant seismic activity throughout the earth from 28 May to 7 June 2004. In that time about 50 earthquakes were recorded world wide. On 28 May 2004 the strong earthquake struck the provinces Mazandaran – Qazvin in Iran and in Hawaii lava from Kilauea volcano picked up intensity and reached the sea on the night of 30 May 2004.
This time of strong seismic activity in May/June 2004 was about 1000 days after the attack on the World Trade Centre in New York on 11 September 2001.
From the time 11 September 2001 to 22 February 2005 is 1260 days.
Forty and two months
The time (in months) from September 2001 (the attack on the World Trade Centre) to the time of the earthquake in the seabed near Sumatra and the tsunami in December 2004 was forty months. The time from the earthquake near Sumatra (December 2004) to the time of the earthquake in Zurand, Iran in February 2005 was two months.
1260 days
The time measure 1260 days is also used in one other position, that is, Rev 12:6 “ And the woman fled into the wilderness , where she has a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” This verse can only be fully understood through history and the fact that the time measure “1260 days” relates to the end time. It was shown in How near Armageddon that the “woman” in Revelation, chapter 12, is the symbol of the development of the Christian Church through the past two millennia, that would be pursued by the “dragon”, the symbol of “the accuser of our brethren” (Rev 12:10), that is the evil influence that cause Christians to quarrel and rise up against each other in war. Revelation reveals the reason for so many religious wars in history. The words “the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days” means that it was predestined by God (she has a place prepared of God) that Christians would flee from religious conflict in Europe to establish new churches in new lands (Americas, Africa, Far East and the Islands of the vast Pacific Ocean) at “the ends of the earth”. There the Christian church would grow (feed her) and be protected till the time “1260 days”.
42 months
The time measure of “42 months” is used in just one other verse in Revelation, Rev 13:5 “And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.”
The word “him” in this verse refers to the “beast out of the sea”. It means that God would give ruling power (“and power was given unto him”) to the rule of men (in the second millennium after the birth of Jesus Christ) that would follow the rule of kings. The word “mouth” relates to world–wide communication and the media that would develop after 1906 and during the twentieth century. World –wide communication would be beneficial (speaking great things) for it would promote freedom of religion and would allow Christians throughout the world to worship freely. Rev 21:6 “give of the fountain of life freely”, and 22:17 “whosoever will let him take freely”. The media would also speak “blasphemies”. This would be the promotion of human rights above the laws of God and the policy of the equalization of world faiths that would undermine the full teaching of Christianity. This situation is going to change in the time after the time “42 months”.
lightning
You will recall that in the last post I said I believe that it is particularly significant that the words ‘thunderings lightnings and an earthquake’ (Rev 8:5) are repeatedly used in Revelation. You will also recall that in the post “The Sixth Seal”, the opening of the sixth seal measured time in months from August to December 2003. In the sequence of events in those months there was the ‘lightning’ linked to the unusual appearance of the ‘northern lights’ in October 2003 and the earthquake in Bam on 26 December of that year. The opening of the sixth seal (that is measured in months) falls within the time period of ‘42 months’ and ‘1260 days’ (11September 2001 to 22 February 2005). “Thundering” relates to the time measures of Revelation, which may mean that, all the earthquakes in the time measures ‘1260 days’ and ‘42 months’ may be linked by the words “thundering lightning and an earthquake.”
It may also mean that all the earthquakes in Revelation are linked to the time of the ‘42 months’ and ‘1260 days’.
Darkness
You will recall that the opening of the sixth seal measured time back from December 2003. The words of Revelation 6:12 “The sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became as blood” was linked to the month November 2003. November 2003 was the month in which there was a total eclipse of the sun and a total eclipse of the moon.) It seems that the final symbolic time of “darkness” is from November 2003. By November 2003 the first four trumpets had sounded because of the words of the ‘darkening’ of the three parts of the earth in the sounding of the fourth trumpet (Rev 8:12).
(I say this for in Revelation same or similar words indicate the same time.)
Kilauea
The darkness of the earth seems to be verified by the times that the Kilauea volcano started erupting in the time 2001 to 2005. In May/June 2004, the end of the ‘1000 days’, there was ‘lightning’ in the ‘darkness’ of the Pacific Ocean when the lava of Kilauea once again flowed to the sea. This was also the time of the earthquake in the Northern provinces of Iran (Middle East section of the earth- Rev 16:19 and the great city was divided into three parts). Also in the time of the “threescore days”, February 2005, that was the time that more lava erupted from Kilauea volcano and found a new outlet to the sea, there occurred the earthquake in Zarand (22 February) in Iran.
The words of Jesus Christ
Of the greatest significance is that these occurrences relate to the words of Jesus Christ regarding the Return. I cannot over emphasize how important this is.
Matthew 24 :27 For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines unto the west: so shall the coming of the Son of man be.
11 September 2001
It seems that the words of Revelation bear out that this most significant and extremely tragic day is the beginning of the final time measures of Revelation.
Hour
Within an hour the three high jacked airliners struck the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon: Flight 11 out of Boston crashed into the north tower at 8:45 am; Flight 175 from Boston at 9:03 am and Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:43.
The time measures of 1000, 200, and threescore days between the events mentioned above with the words “1260 days” brings about the likelihood that this “hour” relates to the time measure of an “hour” in the section of the “fall of Babylon” in Revelation, chapter 18. The ‘falling’ of the twin towers is symbolic of the time of the beginning of the coming to the end of the growth and great prosperity of the mighty world trade network in the1990’s. A trade network of the nations of the earth that was gradually built up over the last millennium.
The “great city Babylon” as described in Revelation, chapter 18 is the development of the ‘global city’, the internet linked trading nations of the world. The “fall” of the World Trade Centre in New York was then the symbol of the “fall” of the boom period in the 1990’s. How the entire world watched the fall of the twin towers on TV is expressed through the words of Revelation 18:17-18 “For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors and as many trade by the sea, stood afar off, and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying: What city is like to this great city.”
It must be remembered that the time measure of an “hour” has two measures in Revelation. It is the time of about 24 years and it is also the time of an “hour” as we know it. We have not yet come to the end of the final period of
24 years.
In How near Armageddon it was shown that the Fall of Babylon also relates to build up of the trade networks of the world until the time of the “fall” in 1927. Revelation also uses the word “hour” three times in Chapter 18. This indicates the growth of trade in the time from the Depression to 2001 about 72 years (24x3). It is also the growth of trade in the three ‘parts’ of the earth.
Once again the symbols (“the great city” and “hour”) of Revelation relate to history and to the end time. It is interesting to note that Kilauea volcano started erupting in 1981, which is 24 years ago.
Why 11 September 2001?
Why does Revelation relate to 11 September 2001? Rev 18:21 “with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down.”
