September 23 came and the Great Sign of Revelation 12 duly appeared. The dead silence from the news media and the science establishment confirms this. One can imagine the uproar of derision if the sign had not appeared.
The one reaction that I have noted from the Church came on 1 October. A senior pastor and former president of the Baptist Union of South Africa said this from the pulpit:
"We have a message to take into the world, a message of impending wrath, but also a message of hope."
From this I gather that the Baptist Union leadership has considered the matter and found the sign to be valid.
And well may we all consider the matter. Look at what is happening in the world around us! We have the presidents of two nuclear-armed countries (one of them a homicidal maniac) throwing personal insults at each other in public. When has the world ever seen something like this before? We have a first-world financial system so fantastically over-burdened with debt that the only likely two ways in which this situation will be resolved are either through hyperinflation or through a deflationary collapse into bankruptcy. And this applies right across the developed world, both East and West. Again, when has the world ever seen anything like this before?
Our God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, has acted with grace and mercy in giving us the Great Sign in the Heavens of Revelation 12. It is the signal that we should prepare our hearts and minds for the tribulation to come. Without such preparation we are not going to make it into the Kingdom with our faith intact. But the Sign also says that Jesus is on his way back to us! Hallelujah!
