Corruption in the spread to the ends of the earth

(One must not forget that the Revelation of Jesus Christ was written down by John on Patmos in c AD92. At that point in time, through the understanding of Revelation in 2020, God already knew exactly what course the history of the nations would take. Revelation is in 2020 being finally, fully revealed to show how God, not only has directed the nations with a rod of iron (Rev 12:5), he already knew in cAD92 how everything would play out. How can one not believe that God is, that life after death is a reality.)

Revelation, Chapter 17

Rev 17:1 “And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:”

Deterioration of moral values.

I believe this angel to be the sixth angel that poured the sixth vile. I say this because this chapter, and the following three chapters lead up to Armageddon. Note that Revelation uses the word “whore”, who is judged here. In verse 17:3 it is a “woman” on a scarlet coloured beast”.

Therefore, Revelation indicates that a deterioration of moral values accompanied the rising of the great city in the time of the spread of the Faith to the ends of the earth (“wilderness”).

The “many waters” are “peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues” (Rev 17:15).

The “woman” is the great city
(Rev 17:18).

Therefore, the “great whore that sitteth upon many waters” is the corruption and immorality that came about in the rise of the great cities of the nations. In 2020 Revelation combines all the cities of the earth in “great city, Babylon” (Rev 18:10).

Rev 17:2-6

Revelation now proceeds to move from the time of kings, through history, to the time of the spread of the Faith and the time that the nations move to secular rule. Secular rule, great wealth in the great cities and moral decline brought with it an undermining of the message of the Cross.

Rev 17:2 “With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.”

The “scarlet coloured beast” relates through the word ‘’scarlet” to the time of the opening of the second seal and the rider of the red horse (AD790 to 1896). In other words, the misdeeds, corruption and undermining of the Faith (“a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast”) of the leadership of the nations (“having seven heads and ten horns”) that came about from trade and the accumulation of wealth in the great cities across the seas, over a very long period of time.

The wealth of the great city

Rev 17:4 “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.”

“The golden cup in her hand full of abominations” represents the falling away from the Faith and the Holy Sacraments.

Rev 17:7 “And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.”
They that dwell on earth shall wonder

Rev 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.”

Readers should read the analysis of these verses in the Chapters section of this website. The explanations being to lengthy for this post.

The following verses indicate kingdoms in Europe that moved from a unity of state and church to secular rule in centuries past. Initially the nations saw the dangers of taking Faith out of the power of the kings (“beast that was”), but with the freedoms of secular rule and the end of religious strife (“and is not”) everything seemed fine. With freedom, however, came corruption and immorality.

Rev 17:9 “And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.”

The time of the “altar”

Through the words “short space” Revelation takes the transition to secular rule right up to the time 2008 to 2020, which I have shown in previous posts to be the time of the “half hour” (Rev 6:11 “the little season” and Rev 8:1 “half hour”). And then must come the destruction of the beast.

Rev 17:11 “And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.”

One hour

Readers shall see that in each of the dynasties in Europe there was a king that reigned for about 24 years in the time of transition. In Revelation “one hour” indicates about 24 years”.

Power given to the beast

Rev 17:13 “These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.”

Revelation now again moves back in history to reveal that for a time the power is given to secular rule (“these shall make war with the Lamb” (17:14)), but ultimately the rider on the white horse returns (Rev 19:11-16).

Rev 17:14 “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.”

Secular rule will help fight corruption “these shall hate the whore”.

Rev 17:16 “And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.”

Secular rule will be in place till
the words of God, all prophecy, is fulfilled.

Rev 17:17 “For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.”
The world economy ultimately determines the ruling of the nations.

(Quite amazing the revelation of the factors and influences (in symbolic form) present in the spread of the Faith and the rise of the great cities across the globe in the time of the second millennium AD - prophesied already in cAD92!).
