Good Morning Dr. Janson,
I have emerged from my winter hibernation and am
ready to chirp again.
In the past you have expressed a conviction that God
will not tolerate Man meddling with the foundations
of his Creation. Therefore he will not permit the
science of genetic engineering to go much further.
My question today is about artificial intelligence
(AI). Man is now making machines with AI which can
learn from interaction with the environment, to the
extent that the machine possesses information which
the maker of the machine is not aware of. Therefore
the actions of the machine are unpredictable to the
maker.
The Bible says that God told us to 'subdue' the
world (Gen 1:28). I take this to mean that He
wanted us to go out and wrestle with the
complexities of the physical world, and learn from
these efforts how to manage the physical world.
If we are going to delegate this activity to
intelligent machines, does that not amount to a
'short-circuiting' of His intentions for us?
